The CITYLABS project is funded by the European Community's Erasmus+ Program for the development of capacity building for higher education institutions. In addition to UFSC, 11 other Latin American universities from six different countries and 5 European countries participate in the project. The project's objective is to develop problem-based learning methodologies (PBL- Problem Based Learning) aiming at sustainable urbanism projects. The development of the CITYLABS project at the Federal University of Santa Catarina was coordinated by the Laboratory of Urban Ecology and split into a research project, another extension and graduate courses to explore proposals with a focus on integrating different areas of study in one teaching environment in the project studio format. The Environmental Management Coordination Project “Recovery of Water Quality in the Streams of the Rector João David Ferreira Lima Campus” coordinated by Prof. Cesar Pompêo was the starting point for the development of the proposal, based on the connections of systems related to urban rivers.
